Jennifer N. Shannon (@writerjns) is a native of Cheraw, SC which is also the birthplace of famous jazz musician, Dizzy Gillespie. She attended the University of South Carolina where she wrote a short story that ultimately became the muse for her first novel, Silent Teardrops. From there, Jennifer has continued to write and create in ways that showcase her proud southern heritage.   

 

Jennifer has written and published three books and has had short stories and poems published in several literary magazines such as Deep South, The Auburn Avenue and an essay forthcoming in North Dakota Quarterly. Three of her poems were published in the anthology, tender, a literary anthology and book of spells: evidence and Jennifer's work is featured in the Maryland State Arts Council 2021 Virtual Exhibition titled Identity

Recently, Jennifer was awarded a fellowship from The Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing and a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council for Independent Artists. She was also selected and served as a panelist for the 2021 Maryland Heritage Awards. Jennifer is currently on the board of Yellow Arrow Publishing in the role of marketing director.

REVOLT: Black Joy Still Exists, It Always Will, a virtual exhibition showcasing Black Joy, Black Love and Black Excellence, is one of Jennifer's latest creative endeavor. She’s also writing her second novel and enjoying everything that comes with living and loving without limits.
