Last night

Like thousands of others, I was glued in front of my phone watching Jill Scott and Erykah Badu on Instagram as they shared, uplifted and soothed. I'm not even into the "battles" that have been broadcast on social media over the past month or so, but this one I could not miss. (Spoiler alert: It was not a "battle")

It goes without saying that I would watch both of these awesome musicians! One of the very first cd's I purchased was Baduizm back in high school. I also remember when I went to Best Buy to purchase "Who is Jill Scott?" when it first came out. I'm incredibly proud that I've experienced the growth of these two artists while also making my own memories with their music playing in the background.

So I sat in total elation as Jill Scott and Erykah Badu gave everyone a moment that was just as much nourishing as it was entertaining. They talked about their music, how they met, their beginnings as artists and what inspires them to write. (As a writer, I was encouraged and inspired to keep sharing my own work.) They laughed, sang, reminisced and in turn I did the same. That's one of the reasons it was so special. It was real and honest and was much of what everyone watching needed in this time of being shut in. Because if you were anything like me, you smiled from ear to ear, sang every song, swayed and danced, nodded your head in agreement and felt a joy that only that kind of spiritual nourishment can give.

Simply put, last night was everything! No matter the circumstance, no matter how exhausting it is to be stuck indoors, no matter the fear, no matter the loss. For few hours, we were all free to feel joy and happiness in the midst of everything else that is happening. And I am so grateful!

Stay safe everyone and keep your heads lifted. This too shall pass!
